He always does<br \/>\nthis when He comes into the soul.\u00a0<strong>He puts us in our<br \/>\nright place!<\/strong> He shows us the vileness of our own hearts,<br \/>\nand makes us cry with the publican, \u201cGod be merciful to<\/p>\n<p>me a sinner!\u201d He pulls down those proud, self-righteous,<br \/>\nself-justifying notions with which we are all born\u2013and<br \/>\nmakes us feel as we ought to feel\u2013\u201dI am a sinful man,<br \/>\nand I deserve to be in hell!\u201d<br \/>\nSin is no more pleasant to those who are taught by the<br \/>\nSpirit. It is their sorrow when tempted by it. It is their<br \/>\nshame when they are overtaken by it. Their desire is to<br \/>\nbe free from it altogether. Their happiest times are when<br \/>\nthey are enabled to walk most closely with God.
