{"id":1841,"date":"2012-02-08T05:16:15","date_gmt":"2012-02-08T05:16:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shoalhavengospelchurch.org.au\/?p=1841"},"modified":"2012-02-08T05:16:15","modified_gmt":"2012-02-08T05:16:15","slug":"no-man-can-learn-and-know-the-spiritual-meaning-of-the-bible-to-the-saving-of-his-soul-except-he-be-taught-of-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shoalhavengospelchurch.org.au\/?p=1841","title":{"rendered":"No man can learn and know the spiritual meaning of the Bible to the saving of his  soul, except he be taught of God."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><em>No man can learn and know the spiritual meaning of the Bible to the saving of his<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>soul, except he be taught of God.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>This \u201coffensive\u201d truth Christ told the Jews; but<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>whenever He said anything which He knew would hurt the pride of their hearts, He<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>used to say: \u201cIt is written in the law, or in the prophets;- then they were not able to<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>answer Him a word, for they professed to believe them; as He said in this instance:<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>\u201cIt is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me\u201d (John<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>6: 45). We ministers adopt the same most excellent plan, for when we advance<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>truths which excite the enmity of carnal minds, we appeal to the Bible for the truth of what we say; and as you profess to believe it, you must justify us\u2026<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em> <\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>All by nature are \u201cdead in trespasses and sins\u201d (Eph. 2: 1; 1 Tim. 5. 6; 1 John 5. 12;<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>Rom. 8 6), with hearts at enmity against God, \u201cdeceitful above all things, and<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>desperately wicked\u201d (Jer. 17: 9); and not one in this state will ever seek God; for,<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>\u201cThe Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>any that did understand and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are altogether<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>become filthv: there is none that doeth good, no, not one\u201d (Psa. 14: 2,\u00a03). And Christ<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>saith to His disciples: \u201cYe have not chosen me, but I have chosen you\u201d (John 15:<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>16); and He told them: \u201cNo man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>me draw him\u201d (John 6 44). He also saith: \u201cI, if I be lifted up from the earth, will<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>draw all men unto me\u201d (John 12: 32). Therefore, none can go to Christ but those<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>who are chosen in Him, and are drawn. There is nothing that man can do that will<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>recommend him to God; for all that man does till he has faith is nothing but sin.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>Paul, who was one of the strictest Pharisees before his conversion, saith: \u201cWe<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But after<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us\u201d (Titus<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>3: 3-5). Paul told the saints at Ephesus that God had \u201cpredestinated us unto the<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself according to the good pleasure of his<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>will\u201d (Eph. 1: 5); and Timothy, \u201cnot according to our works, but according to his<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>own purpose and grace\u201d (2 Tim. 1: 9).<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>If you believe the Scriptures, you must believe that you can do nothing to<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>recommend yourself to God\u2019s favour; for if you have not faith, which is the gift of<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>God, you cannot please Him; for \u201cthey that are in the flesh cannot please God\u201d<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>(Rom. 8: 8), and \u201cin my flesh dwelleth no good thing\u201d (Rom. 7: 18). \u201cWho can<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one\u201d (Job 14: 4). Those that are \u201cdead in<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>trespasses and sins\u201d must be first quickened by the Spirit before the Lord will<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>receive anything from them. \u201cYou hath he quickened,\u201d saith Paul, \u201cwho were dead<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>in trespasses and sins\u201d (Eph. 2: 1).<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em> <\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>Faith is a precious gift; but what way has the Lord appointed to<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>confer it upon His chosen people? By the preaching of the Gospel; for \u201cfaith cometh<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>by hearing, and hearing by the word of God\u201d (Rom.10: 17). Go ye and \u201cpreach the<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>Gospel to every creature; he that believeth and is baptised shall be saved; but he<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>that believeth not shall be damned\u201d (Mark 16: 15,\u00a016). The plan which the Lord<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>hath appointed to gather His people is by sending ministers to preach His Gospel;<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>and some of His chosen people may be persecutors of the true Church, as Paul was;<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>or hardened sinners, like the thief, who even reviled Christ, whilst himself in agony\u2026<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em> <\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>The true ministers of the Gospel humble the pride of man, and make him as<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>nothing; they show him the wickedness and deceitfulness of his own heart, and<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>bring his life and conduct to a comparison with the pure and holy law of God. They<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>inquire deeply into his hope of salvation, and see what foundation he is building<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>upon. \u201cThe lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day\u201d (Isa. 2: 11). When<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>men who are endeavouring to obtain salvation by their works, who are very<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>charitable to the poor, very regular in attending church and sacrament, and seem<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>very rich in what they think good works, and whose religion is such as the world<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>highly approves and commends, hear the Gospel preached, they find that Christ is<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>not the rock upon which they are building; and all their good works and all their<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>pride are levelled to the ground at one stroke. \u201cThough I bestow all my goods to<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>feed the poor; and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><em>profiteth me nothing\u201d (I Cor. 13: 3). Now charity is love, which is the gift of God.
