Why should any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead?
\n(Acts 26:8)<\/p>\n
If someone told you that a man had raised himself from the dead, you
\nwould likely consider it a lie; a story worthy of supermarket tabloids.
\n“That’s incredible,” you would think. (The word “incredible” means
\n“unbelievable.”). Yet, the “gospels” believed by many are just as
\nincredible, for they require that one “dead in trespasses and sins”
\nraise himself from this death, change his own nature, thus becoming
\nsuitable to approach God and find favor with Him. All who follow such
\n“gospels” must come to despair, for they will, sooner or later, realize
\nthat such a work is beyond their abilities. Some of you may be in that
\ncondition. For many years you have sought to make yourself acceptable to
\nGod. You have outwardly acted like a Christian, gone to church, given
\nyour tithe, sought to obey the Law, and followed all the church’s
\nrequirements. But in your heart you know that you are still “dead in
\ntrespasses and sins…without God and without hope in this world” (Eph.
\n2). I have good news for you! It would, indeed, be incredible for you to
\nsave yourself. But it would not be incredible for God to do so! Unbelief
\n(which keeps us from God and is the evidence of an evil heart, Hebrews
\n3:12) arises from a dependence on the wrong person. We all, by nature,
\ndepend on ourselves. The Gospel tells us to depend on God! If I look to
\nmyself, it appears incredible that I should be raised from the dead
\nsomeday and stand before God, holy and unblamable. But such a thing does
\nnot seem so incredible (unbelievable) when I look to God in Christ.
\nSeeing that God has raised up Christ (who bore the sins of many) and
\nseated Christ at His own right hand, it becomes a believable thing that
\nGod could do the same for even me, who bears only my own sin (that is,
\nwithout Christ). Get rid of unbelief by fixing your eyes on God and His
\nwork rather than on you and your works!<\/p>\n

As the doctrines of election and perseverance are comfortable, so they
\ncut off all pretense of boasting and self-dependence, when they are
\ntruly received in the heart, and therefore tend to exalt the Saviour. \u2026
\nHow do our hearts soften, and our eyes melt, when we feel some liberty
\nin thinking and speaking of him! For we had no help in time past, nor
\ncan have any in time to come, but from him alone. If any persons have
\ncontributed a mite to their own salvation, it was more than we could do.
\nIf any were obedient and faithful to the first calls and impressions of
\nthe Spirit, it was not our case. If any were prepared to receive him
\nbeforehand, we know that we were in a state of alienation from him. We
\nneeded sovereign irresistible grace to save us, or we had been lost
\nforever. If there are any who have a power of their own, we must confess
\nourselves poorer than they are. We cannot watch, unless he watches us;
\nwe cannot strive, unless he strives with us; we cannot stand for one
\nmoment, unless he holds us up; and we believe we must perish after all,
\nunless his faithfulness is engaged to keep us. But this we trust he will
\ndo, not for our righteousness, but for his own name’s sake, and because
\nhaving loved us with an everlasting love, he has been pleased in loving
\nkindness to draw us to himself, and to be found of us when we sought him
\nnot.<\/p>\n

A God You Cannot Satisfy, A Law You Cannot Keep . . .<\/p>\n
I have tried diligently to preach God as He really is, to sinners as
\nthey really are, and to exalt the Lord Jesus Christ as the only Mediator
\nbetween the holy God and sinful men, the all-glorious Redeemer who
\naccomplished, by Himself, the reconciliation of His people (II Cor.
\n5:18-21). I have tried, and shall continue to do so, to preach to you:<\/p>\n
1. A God you cannot satisfy,<\/p>\n
2.A law you cannot keep,<\/p>\n
3.An obedience you cannot produce,<\/p>\n
4.A righteousness you cannot produce,<\/p>\n
5.A love you cannot give,<\/p>\n
6.Sin you cannot get rid of,<\/p>\n
7.A judgment you cannot endure,<\/p>\n
8.A repentance you cannot produce,<\/p>\n
9.A faith which God alone can give,<\/p>\n
10.But … a Christ who fully satisfied God for sinners and who freely
\nsaves the vilest of sinners. I urge you to look to Him, believe Him,
\ntrust Him, and confidently commit your guilty soul unto Him. Simply hug
\nup to Him in childlike faith and trust, and all will be well with your
\nsoul. In Him there is no condemnation.<\/p>\n

The life of the Old Testament Jew, under the law, was so difficult. He
\nwas hedged in by a thousand commandments and prohibitions. The forms,
\nlaws, ceremonies, and sacrifices were many, and every detail minutely
\narranged. He was always in danger of becoming unclean. If he sat on a
\ncertain stool, drank from a certain pitcher, ate a certain food, touched
\na leper, or did a certain deed, he was defiled. A thousand sins of
\nignorance were like hidden pits before him. He must be in constant fear
\nof being cut off. No Jew ever talked of a finished work. A lamb was
\nslain, but there must be another; the High Priest went into the holy of
\nholies, but he must go in again next year. The law with its types and
\nshadows can never put away sin! “But this man, after He had offered one
\nsacrifice for sins forever sat down on the right hand of God.”<\/p>\n

Look at our position in Him — “Complete.”<\/p>\n
