{"id":4340,"date":"2017-09-16T08:03:54","date_gmt":"2017-09-16T08:03:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shoalhavengospelchurch.org.au\/?p=4340"},"modified":"2017-09-16T08:03:54","modified_gmt":"2017-09-16T08:03:54","slug":"%e2%80%9ca-good-deed-is-a-step-toward-god%e2%80%9d","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shoalhavengospelchurch.org.au\/?p=4340","title":{"rendered":"\u201cA GOOD DEED IS A STEP TOWARD GOD\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u201cA GOOD DEED IS A STEP TOWARD GOD\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nThe above words were on a marquee in front of one of the largest churches here in town a while back.\u00a0 Evidently these supposed \u201cwords of wisdom\u201d were intended to give directions to earth\u2019s struggling anthropoids in their evolutionary ascension to paradise.<\/p>\n<p>They convey an idea which, though it would be appropriate for the Boy Scouts, is totally opposed to the Word of God, the forgiveness of sins, and that gospel of the free grace of God in Christ Jesus for poor sinners.\u00a0 Boy scouts earn patches, badges, advancements and promotions through their \u201cgood deeds\u201d and \u201chard work.\u201d\u00a0 However they are honest enough to label their rewards, advancements, and promotions meritorious rather than gratuitous.\u00a0 But through the wiles of Satan, false religionists plainly preach and teach that sinners are saved by their own works and worth, efforts and merit, while calling their gospel, \u201csalvation by grace.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cA good deed is a step toward God.\u201d\u00a0 Now I ask you, does that statement teach and promote grace or works?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brothers and sisters, let us pray for grace to live our lives in this world for the honor and glory of Him who loved us and gave himself for us, and \u201clet us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith;\u201d but let us hang our guilty souls upon the Lord Jesus Christ by faith, and let us trust Him alone for our acceptance with God.\u00a0 For it is in Christ, through faith in His name that sinners are made righteous, justified, reconciled, and accepted of God.\u00a0 \u201cTo him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.\u00a0 Even as David describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works.\u201d\u00a0 He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrace is grace and works are works<br \/>\nAnd the two shall never meet;<br \/>\nThose who work are those who boast,<br \/>\nBut grace brings beggars to Jesus\u2019 feet.\u201d<br \/>\nPastor Maurice Montgomery<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cA GOOD DEED IS A STEP TOWARD GOD\u201d The above words were on a marquee in front of one of the largest churches here in town a while back.\u00a0 Evidently these supposed \u201cwords of wisdom\u201d were intended to give directions to earth\u2019s struggling anthropoids in their evolutionary ascension to paradise.
