Come and eat!<\/p>\n

\u201cI am the bread of life.\u201d John 6:48<\/p>\n
\u201cI am the living bread.\u201d John 6:51<\/p>\n
All food is for the sustaining of life.<\/p>\n
Jesus announces Himself as the bread which will sustain
\nthe life of the soul. Not merely some doctrine\u2013but Himself.
\nHe is the bread; not merely bread\u2013but the bread\u2013the one
\ntrue bread; without whom the soul cannot grow, nor its life
\nbe sustained. For only by this life-sustaining bread, can
\nsuch sickly souls be nourished. As such, Jesus is necessary
\nto the soul as its food\u2013its bread.<\/p>\n
Outside of Him, there is no nourishment, no sustenance.
\nHe feeds\u2013He alone. He feeds us on Himself! All else is
\nhusks, or mere air and vapor. Jesus, in His glorious person,
\nis our food\u2013the true bread and sustenance of the soul;
\nthe hidden manna.<\/p>\n
Jesus applies various names to it:
\n\u201cbread from heaven\u201d
\n\u201ctrue bread\u201d
\n\u201cthe bread of God\u201d
\n\u201cbread of life\u201d
\n\u201cliving bread.\u201d
\nAll these are names indicative of its excellence, its power,
\nits suitableness. It is the very bread we need; no other
\nwould do. Jesus is the soul\u2019s eternal food. This
\nstorehouse is inexhaustible\u2013and ever accessible!<\/p>\n
Come as you are, poor prodigal, starving on husks\u2013come
\nand eat! Eat, O friends! Eat, and live! Eat, and be strong!
