1Pet. 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1Pet. 1:4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1Pet. 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The elect are preserved in Christ, BEFORE they are<\/p>\n\n\n\n

called by grace. They are kept by the power of<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God from perishing in their unregeneracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have not you been almost miraculously preserved in the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

midst of dangers, and escaped when others perished by<\/p>\n\n\n\n

your side\u2013or been raised up as it were, from the very<\/p>\n\n\n\n

brink of destruction and the very borders of the grave?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides some striking escapes from what are called<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018accidents\u2019, three times in my life\u2013once in infancy, once<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in boyhood, and once in manhood, I have been raised<\/p>\n\n\n\n

up from the borders of the grave, when almost everyone<\/p>\n\n\n\n

who surrounded my bed thought I would not survive the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

violence of the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Were not these instances of being kept by the power<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of God? I could not die until God had manifested His<\/p>\n\n\n\n

purposes of electing grace and mercy to my soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the elect are also kept by the mighty power of God<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AFTER they are called by grace; for they are in the hollow<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of His hand, and are kept as the apple of His eye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I will not say they are kept from all sins. Yet I will<\/p>\n\n\n\n

say that they are kept from damning sins. They are<\/p>\n\n\n\n

kept especially from three things . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

from the dominion of sin,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

from daring and final presumption,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

from lasting and damnable error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are never drowned in the sins and evils of the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

present life so as to be swallowed up in them\u2013for<\/p>\n\n\n\n

it is impossible that they can ever be lost!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are therefore preserved in hours of temptation,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

for they are guarded by all the power of Omnipotence,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

shielded by the unceasing care and watchfulness of<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Him who can neither slumber nor sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking back through a long vista of years, can you not<\/p>\n\n\n\n

see how the hand of God has been with you\u2013how He has<\/p>\n\n\n\n

held you up, and brought you through many a storm, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

preserved you under powerful temptations? How gently<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He sometimes drew you on, or sometimes kept you back?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI give them eternal life, and they will never perish!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No one can snatch them out of My hand!\u201d John 10:28<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having chosen us, God begets us with His word,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

regenerates us by a divine influence, and makes<\/p>\n\n\n\n

us new creatures by the power and influence of<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
