{"id":5883,"date":"2020-11-29T23:26:16","date_gmt":"2020-11-29T23:26:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shoalhavengospelchurch.org.au\/?p=5883"},"modified":"2020-11-29T23:26:16","modified_gmt":"2020-11-29T23:26:16","slug":"bulletin-edition-november-2020-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shoalhavengospelchurch.org.au\/?p=5883","title":{"rendered":"Bulletin Edition November 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>This is the saint&#8217;s inheritance!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>J.C.Philpot<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Now if we are children, then we are heirs\u2014heirs of<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;His sufferings in order that we may also share in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;His glory.&#8221; Romans 8:17<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the especial blessedness of being a child of God:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>that death, which puts a final extinguisher on all the<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>hopes and happiness of all the unregenerate\u2014gives him<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the fulfilment of all his hopes and the consummation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>of all his happiness\u2014for it places him in possession of<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>fades not away, reserved in heaven.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this present earthly life, we have sometimes sips<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and tastes of sonship, feeble indeed and interrupted;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>yet are they so far pledges of an inheritance to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But this life is only an introduction to a better. In this<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>life we are but children\u2014but in the life to come, we shall<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>be put into full possession of the eternal inheritance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And what is this? Nothing less than God Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Heirs of God!&#8221; says the Apostle. God Himself is<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the inheritance of His people\u2014yes, He Himself in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>all His glorious perfections . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; all the love of God,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; all the goodness of God,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; all the holiness of God,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; all His happiness, bliss, and blessedness,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; all His might, majesty, and glory, in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; all the blaze of one eternal, unclouded day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the saint&#8217;s inheritance!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let us press on by faith and prayer to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>win this eternal and glorious crown!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There is one stable rock amidst the billows of the sea of life!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Charles Spurgeon)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of\nthe age!&#8221; Matthew 28:20<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is well that there is One who is ever the same, and who is\never with us. It is well that there is one stable rock amidst the billows of\nthe sea of life. O my soul, do not set your affections upon rusting,\nmoth-eaten, decaying treasures\u2014but set your heart upon Him who abides forever\nfaithful to you. Do not build your house upon the moving quicksands of a\ndeceitful world\u2014but found your hopes upon this rock, which, amid descending\nrain and roaring floods, shall stand immovably secure!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My soul, I charge you\u2014lay up your treasure in the only secure\ncabinet; store your jewels where you can never lose them. Put your all in\nChrist; set . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; all your affections on His person,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; all your hope in His merit,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; all your trust in His efficacious blood,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; all your joy in His presence,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and so you may laugh at loss and defy difficulties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that all the flowers in the world&#8217;s garden wither and\ndie\u2014and the day is coming when nothing will be left but the black, cold earth.\nDeath&#8217;s black extinguisher must soon put out your candle. Oh! how sweet to have\nsunlight\u2014when the candle is gone! The dark flood must soon roll between you and\nall you have!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So wed your heart to Him who will never leave you. Trust\nyourself with Him who will go with you through the black and surging current of\ndeath&#8217;s stream, and who will land you safely on the celestial shore, and make\nyou sit with Him in heavenly places forever!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go, sorrowing son of affliction\u2014tell your secret troubles to the\nFriend who sticks closer than a brother. Trust all your concerns with Him . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; who never can be taken from you,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; who will never leave you, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; who will never let you leave Him, even &#8220;Jesus\nChrist, the same yesterday, and today, and forever.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I am with you always,&#8221; is enough for my soul to live\nupon\u2014though all others forsake me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Poor, naked, penniless, worthless?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Octavius Winslow, &#8220;Morning Thoughts&#8221;)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John 5:25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is,\nwhen the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall\nlive.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is the special, direct, and effectual call of<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the Spirit, in the elect of God, without which all<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>other calling is in vain.&nbsp; The Spirit effectually<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>works in the soul with an inward, supernatural,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>secret power. There is an energy put forth with<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the call, which . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; awakens the conscience,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; breaks the heart,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; convinces the judgment,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; opens the eye of the soul, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; pours a new and an alarming sound<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; upon the hitherto deaf ear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark the blessed effects . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; the scales fell from the eyes,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; the veil is torn from the mind,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; the deep fountains of evil in the heart are broken up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sinner sees himself as . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; lost and undone<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; without pardon,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; without a righteousness,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; without acceptance,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; without a God,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; without a Saviour,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; without a hope!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Awful condition!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;What shall I do to be saved?&#8221; is his cry! &#8220;I am<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a wretch undone! I look within me, all is dark<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and vile; I look around me, everything seems<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but the image of my woe; I look above me, I<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>see only an angry God. Whichever way I look,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>is hell! And were God now to send me there,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>just and right would He be.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, blessed be God, no poor soul that ever<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>uttered such language, prompted by such<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>feelings, ever died in despair! That faithful<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spirit who begins the good work, effectually<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>carries it on, and completes it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presently He leads him to the cross of Jesus<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and unveils to his glimmering eye of faith a . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; suffering,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; wounded,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; bleeding,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; dying Saviour;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and yet a Saviour with outstretched arms!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That Saviour speaks; oh, did ever music sound<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>so melodious? &#8220;All this I do for you . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; this cross for you,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; these sufferings for you,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; this blood for you,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; these stretched out arms for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Come unto Me, all you that labor and are<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Look<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>unto Me, and be saved!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you lost? I can save you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you guilty? I can cleanse you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you poor? I can enrich you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you sunk low? I can raise you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you naked? I can clothe you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have you nothing to bring with you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; No price?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; No money?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; No goodness?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; No merit?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can and will take you to Me, just as you are . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; poor,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; naked,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; penniless,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; worthless;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>for such I came to seek,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>for such I came to die.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Lord, I believe,&#8221; exclaims the poor convinced soul!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are just the Saviour that I need. I needed one<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>that could and would save me . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; with all my vileness,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; with all my rags,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; with all my poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I needed one that would . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; save me fully,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; save me freely,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>save me as an act of mere unmerited, undeserved<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>grace! I have found Him whom my soul loves! and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>will be His through time, and His through eternity!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus effectually does the blessed Spirit call a sinner,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>by His especial, invincible, and supernatural power,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>out of darkness into marvellous light!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John\n5:25 Verily, verily, I say unto\nyou, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the\nSon of God: and they that hear shall live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If Jesus had not been their Saviour, their Shepherd, and their\nShield!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(John Newton)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gracious purposes to which the Lord makes the sense and\nfeeling of our depravity subservient, are manifold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hereby His own power, wisdom, faithfulness and love \u2014 are more\nsignally displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His power is displayed \u2014 in maintaining His own work in the\nmidst of such opposition, like a spark burning in the water, or a bush\nunconsumed in the flames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His wisdom is displayed in defeating and controlling all the\ndevices which Satan \u2014 who, from his knowledge of the evil of our nature, is\nencouraged to practice his wily arts against us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The unchangeableness of the Lord&#8217;s love, and the riches of His\nmercy, are likewise more illustrated, by the multiplied pardons He bestows upon\nHis people \u2014 than if they needed no forgiveness at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hereby the Lord Jesus Christ is more endeared to the soul; all\nboasting is effectually excluded; and the glory of a full and free salvation is\nascribed to Him alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a long experience of their own deceitful hearts, after\nrepeated proofs of their weakness, wilfulness, ingratitude, and insensibility \u2014\nthey find that none of these things can separate them from the love of God \u2014\nand Jesus becomes more and more precious to their souls. They love much \u2014\nbecause much has been forgiven them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They dare not, they will not ascribe anything to themselves, but\nare glad to acknowledge that they would have perished a thousand times over \u2014\nif Jesus had not been their Savior, their Shepherd, and their Shield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When they were wandering \u2014 He brought them back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When they were fallen \u2014 He raised them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When they were wounded \u2014 He healed them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When they were fainting \u2014 He revived them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a word, some of the clearest proofs they have had of His\nexcellence, have been occasioned by the mortifying proofs they have had of\ntheir own vileness. They would not have known so much of Him \u2014 if they had not\nknown so much of themselves!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are some of the advantages and good fruits which the Lord\nenables us to obtain from that bitter root, indwelling sin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Toys and playthings of the religious babyhouse!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(J.C. You may give it a\nplaything to still its cries. It may serve for a few minutes; but the pains of\nhunger are not to be removed by a doll. A toy horse will not allay the cravings\nafter the mother&#8217;s milk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So it is with babes in grace&#8211;a hungry soul cannot feed upon\nplaythings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Altars,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>robes,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ceremonies,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>candlesticks,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>bowings,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>mutterings,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>painted windows,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>intoning priests, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>singing men and women&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>these dolls and wooden horses&#8211;these toys and playthings of the\nreligious babyhouse, cannot feed the soul that, like David, cries out after the\nliving God. (Psalm 42:2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Christ, the bread of life, the manna that came down from\nHeaven&#8211;is the only food of the believing soul. (John 6:51)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Your words were found, and I ate them; and Your Word was\nunto me the joy and rejoicing of my heart!&#8221; Jeremiah 15:16<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Endless, sinless, sorrowless immortality!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(John MacDuff, a prayer)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Weeping may endure for a night&#8211;but&nbsp; joy cometh in\nthe morning!&#8221; Psalm 30:5<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, Lord, I have &#8220;no continuing city.&#8221; I would not\ndesire to live here always.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Change is the portion of my earthly pilgrimage. Lord, wean me\nfrom this uncertain world!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bring me to live under the influence of eternal realities. I\nrejoice to think of the happy myriads already in glory&#8211;safe in the presence of\nthe Master they love, with every tear drop wiped away. May the thought of that\nendless, sinless, sorrowless immortality reconcile me to all of earth&#8217;s\nseverest discipline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let me not murmur under the heaviest cross&#8211;in the prospect of such\na crown. Let me not refuse to pass cheerfully through the hottest furnace which\nis to refine and purify me for this exceeding and eternal weight of\nglory!&nbsp; Allow me to bear with calm serenity, whatever cross You see fit to\nlay upon me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;They will be His people&#8211;and God Himself will be with them\nand be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there\nshall be no more death neither sorrow nor crying neither shall there be any\nmore pain&#8211;for the former things are passed away.&#8221; Revelation 21:3-4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Universal nonsense!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Don Fortner)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I am the Good Shepherd.
