It is to abandon the\ncourse of self will and self pleasing. It is to forsake our way; it is to\nsurrender to God&#8217;s authority; it is to yield to his dominion and it is to give\nourselves over to be ruled by Him. One who has never taken Christ&#8217;s yoke upon\nhim and:who is not truly seeking to please him in all details of life and yet\nsupposing he is resting in Christ is deceived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*<em>Twas&nbsp;<strong>Grace<\/strong>&nbsp;that\nTaught My Heart to Fear:<\/em><br>\n1. It was covenant grace that chose us.<br>\n(Timothy 1:9) If he had not chosen us, we would never have chosen Him.<br>\n2. It was invincible grace that persuaded us.<br>\n(Galatians 1:15) He will fetch you if you are one of his own.<br>\n3. It was redeeming grace that saved us.<br>\n(Ephesians 2:8) All that the law required, all that holiness demanded, all that\njustice expected was supplied in and by the Lord Jesus.<br>\n4. It is preserving grace that keeps us.<br>\n(Philippians 1:6) &#8220;I will not forsake them, and they will not depart from\nme&#8221; (Jeremiah 32:40).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Obedience is the safeguard\nagainst the snare of the enemy. We cannot reason on what we see; we must obey\nwhat we hear. Reason is no guide for the people of God. We must be absolutely\nand completely guided and governed by the word of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*There are reasons why\nrighteousness is required\u2014God is the Creator, the law giver, the Governor, the\nJudge, God&#8217;s character is holy, blessed, just and perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>God&#8217;s law has an obligation upon\nall men and demands proper satisfaction. The righteousness God requires is one\nsuitable to his nature and one that entitles one for a place in glory. This\nrighteousness provided by the Lord Jesus is where God&#8217;s justice is satisfied,\nsin is punished, God&#8217;s holiness demonstrated, God&#8217;s truth manifested, God&#8217;s law\nhonored, God&#8217;s authority upheld, and God&#8217;s lovely attributes displayed. This\nrighteousness is perfect, complete, full, victorious, permanent, and free to\nthose who believe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Most people believe that it is more important to escape cancer and heart failure than it is to escape hell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"wp-block-table\"><tbody><tr><td>\n  <strong>That secret loveliness<\/strong><br>\n  <br>\n  (Philpot, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gracegems.org\/Philpot\/sacrifice_bound.htm\">The Sacrifice Bound to the Horns\n  of the Altar<\/a>&#8220;)<br>\n  <br>\n  &#8220;I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love.&#8221;<br>\n  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Hosea 11:4<br>\n  <br>\n  Where Christ is made in any measure experimentally<br>\n  known, He has gained the affections of the heart. He<br>\n  has, more or less, taken possession of the soul. He<br>\n  has, in some degree, endeared Himself as a bleeding,<br>\n  agonizing Savior to every one to whom He has in any<br>\n  way revealed Himself. And, thus, the strong cord of<br>\n  love and affection is powerfully wreathed around the<br>\n  tender spirit and broken heart. Therefore . . .<br>\n  &nbsp; His name becomes as &#8216;ointment poured forth&#8217;,<br>\n  &nbsp; there is a preciousness in His blood,<br>\n  &nbsp; there is a beauty in His Person,<br>\n  &nbsp; there is&nbsp;<strong>that secret\n  loveliness<\/strong>&nbsp;in Him,<br>\n  which wins and attracts and draws out the tender<br>\n  affections of the soul. This righteousness is perfect,\ncomplete, full, victorious, permanent, and free to those who believe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Most people believe that it is more important to escape cancer\nand heart failure than it is to escape hell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\n<strong>The Great Attraction!<\/strong><br>\nThe following is from Spurgeon&#8217;s sermon,<br>\n&#8220;The Great Attraction&#8221; No. 775.&nbsp; John 12:32.<br>\n<br>\nChrist dying for sinners is the<br>\ngreat attraction of Christianity!<br>\n<br>\nSince men will not come to him, the crucified<br>\nSaviour becomes himself the attraction to men.<br>\nHe casts out from himself bands of love and<br>\ncords of gracious constraint, and binding these<br>\naround human hearts, he draws them to himself<br>\nby an invincible constraint of grace.<br>\n<br>\nSinners by nature will not come to Jesus, though<br>\nhis charms might even attract the blind, and<br>\narouse the dead. They will not melt, though<br>\nsurely such beauties might dissolve the adamant,<br>\nand kindle affection in rock of ice.<br>\n<br>\nBut Jesus has a wondrous power about him<br>\nto woo and win the sons of men. Out of his<br>\nheart proceed chains of gold by which he binds<br>\nthousands of willing captives to himself.<br>\n<br>\nMany a heart has been so charmed with his<br>\nlove, that it has run to Christ, drawn by the<br>\nsilken bonds of love.<br>\n<br>\nJesus is the universal attraction, the attraction<br>\nto which all hearts must yield when he draws<br>\neffectually by his grace.<br>\n<br>\nThe attraction of the Crucified One<br>\nhas bound them to the cross forever!<br>\n<br>\nThe gracious Spirit has moved many tender<br>\nhearts first to pity, and afterwards to love<br>\nthe bleeding Lamb.<br>\n<br>\nWhat a melting power there is in Gethsemane!<br>\nCan you view the bloody sweat drops, as they<br>\nfall upon the frozen soil, and not feel that, in<br>\nsome degree, invisible but irresistible cords<br>\nare drawing you to Jesus?<br>\n<br>\nCan you see him flagellated in Pilate&#8217;s hall, every<br>\nthong of the scourge tearing the flesh from his<br>\nshoulders? Can you see him as they spit into his<br>\nlovely face, and mar his blessed visage, and not<br>\nfeel as if you could fain fall down and kiss his feet,<br>\nand make yourself forever his servant?<br>\n<br>\nAnd, lastly, can you behold him hanging upon the<br>\nhill of Golgotha to die- can you mark him as his<br>\nsoul is there overwhelmed with the wrath of God,<br>\nwith the bitterness of sin, and with a sense of<br>\nutter desertion- can you sit down and watch him<br>\nthere and not be attracted to him?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What a boundless, fathomless ocean!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eternal love moved the heart of Jesus to relinquish . . .<br>\n&nbsp; heaven for earth;<br>\n&nbsp; a diadem for a cross;<br>\n&nbsp; the robe of divine majesty for the garment of our nature;<br>\nby taking upon Himself the leprosy of our sin.<br>\nOh, the infinite love of Christ!<strong><br>\nWhat a boundless, fathomless ocean!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ask the ransomed of the Lord, whose&nbsp;<em>chains&nbsp;<\/em>He\nhas dissolved, whose&nbsp;<em>dungeon&nbsp;<\/em>He has opened, whose&nbsp;<em>liberty&nbsp;<\/em>He\nhas conferred \u2014 if there ever was love like His!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What shall we say of&nbsp;<em>the ransom price<\/em>? It was the\nrichest, the costliest, that Heaven could give! He gave&nbsp;<em>Himself<\/em>&nbsp;for\nus! What more could He do? He gave Himself; body, soul and spirit. He gave His\ntime, His labor, His blood, His life, His ALL \u2014 as the price for our ransom,\nthe cost of our redemption. He carried the wood and reared the altar. Then,\nbearing His bosom to the stroke of the uplifted and descending arm of the\nFather \u2014 He paid the price of our salvation in the warm lifeblood of His heart!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What a boundless, fathomless ocean!&nbsp;<\/strong>How is\nit that we feel the force and exemplify the practical influence of this\namazing, all commanding truth so faintly? Oh, the desperate depravity of our\nnature! Oh, the deep iniquity of our iniquitous hearts! Will not the\nblood-drops of Jesus move us? Will not the agonies of the cross influence us?\nWill not His dying love constrain us to a more heavenly life?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Octavius Winslow<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For you!<\/strong><br>\n<br>\n&#8220;The Son of God, who&nbsp;<em>loved&nbsp;<\/em>me and&nbsp;<em>gave&nbsp;<\/em>Himself\nfor me!&#8221;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/biblia.com\/bible\/esv\/Gal%202.20\">Galatians 2:20<\/a><br>\n<br>\nIs Jesus precious to your heart?<br>\n<br>\nIs He the object of your supreme admiration and delight?<br>\n<br>\nDoes He have your warmest affection?<br>\n<br>\nDo you love Jesus?<br>\n<br>\nYou must light your torch of affection for Christ \u2014 at the altar of Calvary.\nYou must go there, and learn and believe what the love of Jesus is to you: the\nvastness of that love; the self-sacrifice of that love; how that love of Christ\nlaboured and wept, bled, suffered, and died&nbsp;<strong>for you!<\/strong><br>\n<br>\nCan you stand before this love \u2014 this love so precious, so great, so enduring,\nso self-consuming, so changeless; and know that. . .<br>\n&nbsp; for you was this offering,<br>\n&nbsp; for you this cross,<br>\n&nbsp; for you this agony,<br>\n&nbsp; for you this scorn and insult,<br>\n&nbsp; for you this death \u2014<br>\nand feel no sensibility, no emotion, no love to Jesus? Impossible!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do not be cast down, then, in vain regrets that your love to Christ\nis so frigid, so fickle, so dubious. Go and muse upon the reality and the\ngreatness of the Saviour&#8217;s love to you \u2014 and if love can inspire love, while\nyou muse, the fire will burn, and your soul shall be all in flame with love to\nJesus!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Octavius Winslow<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8220;God is the Lord, which hath showed us light.&#8221; \u2013Psalm\n118:27<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>J.C.Philpot<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If God the Lord has showed us light, he has showed us light both\nwith respect to himself and with respect to ourselves. He has showed us with\nrespect to himself who he is; he has stamped something of himself upon our\nconsciences; he has discovered something of his glorious character to our\nsouls; and brought us, under the operation of the Holy Spirit, into his\npresence, there to receive communications of life out of Christ&#8217;s inexhaustible\nfullness. Thus in this light we see and feel that we have to do with a\nheart-searching God; in this light we see and feel that we have to do with a\nsin-hating God; with a God who will not be mocked nor trifled with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this light we see and feel that every secret of our heart,\nevery working of our mind is open before him; and in this light, so far as he\nis pleased to manifest it, we see what we are in his holy and pure eyes&#8211;a mass\nof sin, filth, and corruption, without help, without strength, wisdom, or\nrighteousness, without creature loveliness, without anything of which we can\nsay that it is spiritually good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Again, God the Lord, showing us light, has showed us more or\nless of the way of salvation through Jesus Christ. He has not only showed us\nwhat we are by nature, but he has in a measure condescended to show us what we are\nby grace; not merely brought into our hearts some acquaintance with himself as\na God of perfect justice, but he has also brought, more or less, into our souls\nsome acquaintance with him as a God of mercy; and has thus brought us, in some\nsolemn measure, to know him, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom he has\nsent; and, thus, to have the springing up of spiritual life more or less, each\naccording to his measure, in our souls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Unconquerable King!<\/strong>&nbsp;(part\n2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Spurgeon &#8220;The Unconquerable King&#8221; Daniel 4:34,35<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Events appear to fly at random like the<br>\ndust in the whirlwind; but it is not so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rule of the Omnipotent God extends<br>\n&nbsp; over all things at all times!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nothing is left to its own chance, but<br>\n&nbsp;in wisdom all things are governed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is reigning amid all the calamities<br>\nwhich sweep the globe, as much as He<br>\nshall be in the halcyon days of peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Never is His throne vacant!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Never is His scepter laid aside!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jehovah is always King, and shall be King forever and forever!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This&nbsp;<strong>unconquerable King<\/strong>&nbsp;sits securely on His\nthrone!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no doctrine to the advanced Christian<br>\nwhich contains such a deep sea of delight as this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord reigns!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord is King forever and ever!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why, then all is well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh, happy subjects, who have such a throne to look lo!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh, blessed children, who have such a King to be your Father!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;\u201cwhose dominion&nbsp;<em>is<\/em>&nbsp;an everlasting\ndominion, and his kingdom&nbsp;<em>is<\/em>&nbsp;from generation to\ngeneration:&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><sup>35&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong><strong>and\nall the inhabitants of the earth&nbsp;<em>are<\/em>&nbsp;reputed as nothing: and\nhe doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and&nbsp;<em>among<\/em>&nbsp;the\ninhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What\ndoest thou?\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Daniel\n4:34-35<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hallelujah!<\/strong><br>\n<br>\n(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gracegems.org\/Newton\/John_Newton1.htm\">Letters of John Newton<\/a>)<br>\n<br>\n<strong><em>&#8220;The Lord reigneth; Let the earth rejoice&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;Psalm 97:1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1776.<br>\nMy dear madam,<br>\nHe who once bore our sins, and carried our sorrows\u2014is seated upon a throne of\nglory, and exercises all power in heaven and on earth! Thrones, principalities,\nand powers, bow before Him! His providence pervades and manages the whole\nuniverse, and is as minutely attentive to every part\u2014as if there were only a\nsingle object in His view! From the tallest archangel\u2014to the smallest ant or\nfly\u2014all depend on Him for their being, their preservation, and their powers. He\ndirects the&nbsp;<em>sparrows&nbsp;<\/em>where to build their nests, and where to\nfind their food. He over-rules the rise and fall of&nbsp;<em>nations<\/em>; and\nbends, with an invincible power, and unerring wisdom\u2014all events to His\nsovereign will! So that while many intend other outcomes\u2014their designs all\nconcur and coincide in the accomplishment of His holy will.<br>\n<br>\nJesus restrains with an almighty hand\u2014the still more formidable efforts of\nthe&nbsp;<em>powers of darkness<\/em>. Satan with all his hosts cannot exert their\nmalice a hair&#8217;s-breadth beyond the limits of His permission!<br>\n<br>\nThis&nbsp;<strong>omnipotent Savior<\/strong>&nbsp;is the head and husband of His\nbelieving people. How&nbsp;<em>happy&nbsp;<\/em>are those whom it is His good\npleasure to bless! How&nbsp;<em>safe&nbsp;<\/em>are those whom He has engaged to\nprotect! How&nbsp;<em>honored&nbsp;<\/em>and&nbsp;<em>privileged&nbsp;<\/em>are those\nto whom He is pleased to manifest Himself, and whom He enables and warrants to\nclaim Him as their Friend and eternal portion!<br>\n<br>\nHaving redeemed them by His own blood\u2014He esteems them as His&nbsp;<em>treasure<\/em>,\nHis&nbsp;<em>jewels;<\/em>&nbsp;and protects them as the pupil of His eye! They\nshall not lack any good thing. They need not fear. His unerring&nbsp;<strong>eye&nbsp;<\/strong>is\nupon them in every situation; His&nbsp;<strong>ear&nbsp;<\/strong>is always open to their\nprayers; and His everlasting<strong>&nbsp;arms&nbsp;<\/strong>are under them for their\nsure support! On&nbsp;<strong>earth&nbsp;<\/strong>He guides their steps, controls their\nenemies, and directs all His dispensations for their spiritual good.
