{"id":6724,"date":"2024-06-17T03:50:09","date_gmt":"2024-06-17T03:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shoalhavengospelchurch.org.au\/?p=6724"},"modified":"2024-06-17T03:50:09","modified_gmt":"2024-06-17T03:50:09","slug":"your-religious-knowledge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shoalhavengospelchurch.org.au\/?p=6724","title":{"rendered":"Your religious knowledge"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>&nbsp; As the sun is seen in its own light, so is Christ; we can never behold Him believingly and comfortably, but in the light of His Own Spirit.&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>\u201cFor with Thee is the fountain of life; in Thy light we shall see light\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;(Psalm 36:98).&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong><em>Augustus Toplady<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>See to it that your religious knowledge is not&nbsp;borrowed&nbsp;from a church, or from a minister, or from a creed\u2013but is derived directly and only from Christ. Let&nbsp;your&nbsp;<em>knowledge<\/em>&nbsp;of Christ,&nbsp;your&nbsp;<em>faith<\/em>&nbsp;in Christ,&nbsp;your&nbsp;<em>love<\/em>&nbsp;to Christ,&nbsp;your&nbsp;<em>obedience<\/em>&nbsp;to Christ,&nbsp;be the test and the measure of the light that is in you.&nbsp;Is there not a great danger of&nbsp;borrowing our religious thoughts, sentiments, and phraseology, from others?&nbsp;And was not this the case with the&nbsp;<em>foolish virgins<\/em>&nbsp;in the parable, when they exclaimed, \u201cPleasegive us some of your&nbsp;oil,&nbsp;because our lamps are going out!\u201d (Matthew 25:8).&nbsp;Oh, it is of the utmost importance that our religious light is not a&nbsp;borrowed&nbsp;or false light.&nbsp;See that your religion is your own\u2013the personal, vital experience of your own heart.&nbsp;Nothing is&nbsp;<em>easier<\/em>, or more&nbsp;<em>deceptive<\/em>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<em>fatal<\/em>\u2013than to&nbsp;make a religious profession,&nbsp;adopt a religious ritual,&nbsp;imitate the experience,&nbsp;and quote the language of others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A borrowed or a counterfeit religion&nbsp;is of all religions, the most ensnaring and dangerous! Do not go to the grave clad in the religious apparel of others, but robed in Christ\u2019s true and joyous garments of salvation, girded with the golden belt of truth, holiness, and love.
