One morning while he was eating breakfast\nin his room, his hostess told him of a woman downstairs who was in great\ntrouble and wanted to know if he had any advice for her. Murray handed her a\npaper he had been writing on and said, \u201cJust give her this advice I\u2019m writing\ndown for myself. It may be that she\u2019ll find it helpful.\u201d This is what he had\nwritten:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn time of trouble, say, \u2018First, He\nbrought me here. It is by His will I am in this strait place; in that I will\nrest.\u2019 Next, \u2018He will keep me here in His love, and give me grace in this trial\nto behave as His child.\u2019 Then say, \u2018He will make the trial a blessing, teaching\nme lessons He intends me to learn, and working in me the grace He means to\nbestow.\u2019 And last, say, \u2018In His good time He can bring me out again. How and\nwhen, He knows.\u2019 Therefore, say \u2018I am here (1) by God\u2019s appointment, (2) in His\nkeeping, (3) under His training, (4) for His time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Real Redemption<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are those who believe that\nJesus Christ died so man would have a chance of being saved. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I do not know that I hate anything\nmore in my soul than to hear someone say that Jesus Christ died so as to make\nsalvation a possibility. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It makes Jesus Christ so little,\nthat He should do so much, and after all, only give us a chance of being saved.\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What an insult it is to the Lord\nJesus Christ to fix the eternal honor of God in the salvation of sinners upon\nchance, and that chance to be managed by a poor sinful creature.&nbsp; No, no.\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks be to God for immortal\nrealities and certainties.&nbsp; What is said concerning what Christ has done?\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has \u201cput away sin by the\nsacrifice of Himself\u201d (Hebrews 9:26). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe redeemed us from the curse of\nthe law\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Galatians 3:13). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has \u201cobtained eternal redemption\nfor us\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Hebrews 9:12). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe has redeemed us to God\u201d\n(Revelation 5:9). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To the honor of the Eternal\nTrinity, it is said, not that the redeemed shall have a chance, but that \u201cthe\nredeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and\neverlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy;\nand sorrow and mourning shall flee away\u201d (Isaiah 51:11). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord Jesus Christ has done this\ngreat work and He is gone to heaven shouting \u201cvictory\u201d for \u201cGod is gone up with\na shout; the Lord with the sound of a trumpet\u201d (Psalm 47:5). &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He rose from the grave as a\ndemonstrative proof that sin was destroyed, law satisfied, God honored, and His\npeople eternally and everlastingly saved.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>William Gadsby<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Poor, naked, penniless,\nworthless!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/gracegems.org\/BOOKS\/Octavius%20Winslow%20books.htm\">Octavius Winslow<\/a>, &#8220;Morning Thoughts&#8221;)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Verily, verily, I say unto\nyou, The hour is coming, and now is, when the&nbsp;<em>dead<\/em>&nbsp;will hear\nthe voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall&nbsp;<em>live!<\/em>&#8221;\nJohn 5:25<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is the special, direct,\nand&nbsp;effectual call&nbsp;of the Spirit in the\nelect of God, without which all other calling is in vain. The Spirit&nbsp;<em>effectually<\/em>&nbsp;works\nin the soul with an inward, supernatural, secret power. There is an energy put\nforth with the call, which . . .<br>\n&nbsp; awakens the conscience,<br>\n&nbsp; breaks the heart,<br>\n&nbsp; convinces the judgment,<br>\n&nbsp; opens the eye of the soul, and<br>\n&nbsp; pours a new and an alarming sound upon the hitherto deaf ear!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark the blessed effects . . .<br>\n&nbsp; the scales fall from the&nbsp;<em>eyes<\/em>,<br>\n&nbsp; the veil is torn from the&nbsp;<em>mind<\/em>,<br>\n&nbsp; the deep fountains of evil in the&nbsp;<em>heart<\/em>&nbsp;are broken up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sinner sees himself as . . .<br>\n&nbsp; lost and undone,<br>\n&nbsp; without pardon,<br>\n&nbsp; without a righteousness,<br>\n&nbsp; without acceptance,<br>\n&nbsp; without a God,<br>\n&nbsp; without a Saviour,<br>\n&nbsp; without a hope!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dreadful condition!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;What shall I do to be\nsaved?&#8221; is his cry! &#8220;I am a wretch undone!<br>\n&nbsp;I look&nbsp;<em>within<\/em>&nbsp;me\u2014all is dark and vile.<br>\n&nbsp;I look&nbsp;<em>around<\/em>&nbsp;me\u2014everything seems but the image of my\nwoe.<br>\n&nbsp;I look&nbsp;<em>above<\/em>&nbsp;me\u2014I see only an angry God.<br>\nWhichever way I look, is Hell!<br>\nAnd were God now to send me there\u2014just and right would He be.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, blessed be God, no poor soul\nthat ever uttered such language, prompted by such feelings\u2014ever died in\ndespair! That faithful Spirit who&nbsp;<em>begins<\/em>&nbsp;the good\nwork\u2014effectually&nbsp;<em>carries<\/em>&nbsp;it on, and&nbsp;<em>completes<\/em>&nbsp;it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presently He leads him to the\ncross of Jesus and unveils to his glimmering eye of faith a . . .<br>\n&nbsp; suffering,<br>\n&nbsp; wounded,<br>\n&nbsp; bleeding,<br>\n&nbsp; dying Saviour;<br>\nand yet a Saviour with outstretched arms!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That Saviour speaks; oh, did ever\nmusic sound so melodious?<br>\n&#8220;All this I do for you . . .<br>\n&nbsp; this&nbsp;<em>cross<\/em>&nbsp;for you,<br>\n&nbsp; these&nbsp;<em>sufferings<\/em>&nbsp;for you,<br>\n&nbsp; this&nbsp;<em>blood<\/em>&nbsp;for you,<br>\n&nbsp; these stretched out arms for you.<br>\nCome unto Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.<br>\nLook unto Me, and be saved!<br>\nAre you lost? I can save you!<br>\nAre you guilty? I can cleanse you!<br>\nAre you poor? I can enrich you!<br>\nAre you sunk low? I can raise you!<br>\nAre you naked? I can clothe you!<br>\nHave you nothing to bring with you?<br>\n&nbsp; No price?<br>\n&nbsp; No money?<br>\n&nbsp; No goodness?<br>\n&nbsp; No merit?<br>\nI can and will take you to Me, just as you are . . .<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>poor,<br>\n&nbsp; naked,<br>\n&nbsp; penniless,<br>\n&nbsp; worthless;<\/strong><br>\nfor such I came to seek,<br>\nfor such I came to die!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Lord, I believe!&#8221;\nexclaims the poor convinced soul.<br>\n&#8220;You are just the Savior that I need.<br>\nI needed one that could and would save me . . .<br>\n&nbsp; with all my&nbsp;vileness,<br>\n&nbsp; with all my&nbsp;rags,<br>\n&nbsp; with all my&nbsp;poverty.<br>\nI needed one that would . . .<br>\n&nbsp; save me fully,<br>\n&nbsp; save me freely,<br>\nsave me as an act of mere unmerited, undeserved grace!<br>\nI have found Him whom my soul loves; and will be His through time, and His\nthrough eternity!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus effectually does the blessed\nSpirit&nbsp;call&nbsp;a sinner\u2014by His especial,\ninvincible, and supernatural power; out of darkness into marvelous light!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Verily, verily, I say unto\nyou, The hour is coming, and now is, when the&nbsp;<em>dead<\/em>&nbsp;will hear\nthe voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall&nbsp;<em>live!<\/em>&#8221;\nJohn 5:25<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lift up your heads, you\npoor,<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>you needy, you disconsolate!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gracegems.org\/BOOKS\/Octavius%20Winslow%20books.htm\">Octavius\nWinslow<\/a><br>\n<br>\n&#8220;Christ Jesus came into the world to save&nbsp;sinners!&#8221;<br>\n<br>\nWhat a gospel is this for a poor sinner! It speaks . . .<br>\n&nbsp; of pardon,<br>\n&nbsp; of acceptance,<br>\n&nbsp; of peace with God,<br>\n&nbsp; of full redemption here,<br>\n&nbsp; and unspeakable glory hereafter!<br>\n<br>\nThis glorious gospel proclaims . . .<br>\n&nbsp; a&nbsp;<em>Saviour<\/em>&nbsp;to the lost,<br>\n&nbsp; a&nbsp;<em>Redeemer<\/em>&nbsp;to the captive,<br>\n&nbsp; a&nbsp;<em>Physician<\/em>&nbsp;to the sick,<br>\n&nbsp; a&nbsp;<em>Friend<\/em>&nbsp;to the needy,<br>\n&nbsp; an&nbsp;<em>Advocate<\/em>&nbsp;to the criminal.<br>\n<br>\nAll that a self-ruined, sin-filled, law-condemned, broken-hearted,\njustice-threatened sinner&nbsp;needs\u2014this\n&#8220;glorious gospel of the blessed God&#8221;&nbsp;provides!<br>\n<br>\nIt reveals to the self-ruined, One in whom is his help.<br>\nIt reveals to the sin-filled, One who can take away all sin.<br>\nIt reveals to the law-condemned, One who saves from all condemnation.<br>\nIt reveals to thebroken-hearted,One who binds up and\nheals.<br>\nIt reveals to the justice-threatened, One who is a hiding place from the wind,\nand a covert from the tempest!<br>\n<br>\nThat One is<strong>&nbsp;Jesus!<\/strong><br>\nO name that is ever&nbsp;<em>dear<\/em>.<br>\nO name that is ever&nbsp;<em>sweet<\/em>.<br>\nO name that is ever&nbsp;<em>precious<\/em>.<br>\nO name that is ever fragrant.<br>\nO name that is ever&nbsp;<em>healing<\/em>&nbsp;to broken-hearted sinners!<br>\n<br>\nAll you can possibly need, is treasured up in Christ!<br>\n<br>\nYou have no&nbsp;<em>cross<\/em>, but Christ can bear it.<br>\nYou have no&nbsp;<em>sorrow<\/em>, but Christ can alleviate it.<br>\nYou have no&nbsp;<em>corruption<\/em>, but Christ can subdue it.<br>\nYou have no&nbsp;<em>guilt<\/em>, but Christ can remove it.<br>\nYou have no&nbsp;<em>sin<\/em>, but Christ can pardon it.<br>\nYou have no&nbsp;<em>need<\/em>, but Christ can supply it!<strong><br>\n<br>\nLift up your heads, you poor, you needy, you disconsolate!<\/strong><br>\n<br>\nLift up your heads and rejoice that Christ is&nbsp;<em>all<\/em>&nbsp;to you . . .<br>\n&nbsp; all you need, in this valley of tears;<br>\n&nbsp; all you need, in the deepest sorrow;<br>\n&nbsp; all you need, under the heaviest affliction;<br>\n&nbsp; all you need, in lingering sickness;<br>\n&nbsp; all you will need, in the hour of death;<br>\n&nbsp; all you will need, in the day of judgment!<br>\n<br>\nWhat more do you desire?<br>\n<br>\nA merciful&nbsp;Father&nbsp;who loves you as the\napple of His eye!<br>\n<br>\nA gracious&nbsp;Saviour&nbsp;to whom to go, moment\nby moment!<br>\n<br>\nAnd a blessed indwelling, sanctifying, comforting&nbsp;Spirit!<br>\n<br>\nYes, &#8220;Happy indeed are those whose God is the Lord!&#8221;<br>\n<br>\n<em>&#8220;<\/em>The Spirit of the Lord&nbsp;<em>is<\/em>&nbsp;upon\nme, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent\nme to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and\nrecovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised<em>&#8221;&nbsp;<\/em>Luke 4:18<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HE GAVE HIMSELF FOR US!<br>\n<\/strong><em><br>\nfrom Spurgeon&#8217;s sermon, &#8220;Christ&#8217;s Marvellous Giving&#8221;<\/em><br>\n<br>\nDo you see that dreadful procession going through the streets<br>\nof Jerusalem, along the rough pavement of the Via Dolorosa?<br>\n<br>\nDo you see the weeping women as they mourn because of him?<br>\nHow is it that Jesus is willing to be led a captive up to<br>\nthe hill of Calvary? Alas! they throw him on the ground!<br>\nThey drive accursed iron through his hands and feet.<br>\nThey hoist him into the air! They dash the cross into its<br>\nappointed place, and there he hangs, a naked spectacle of<br>\nscorn and shame, derided of men, and mourned by angels.<br>\n<br>\nHow is it that the Lord of glory, who made all worlds,<br>\nand hung out the stars like lamps, should now be<br>\nbleeding and dying there?<br>\n<strong>HE GAVE HIMSELF FOR US!<\/strong><br>\n<br>\nCan you see the streaming fountains of the four wounds in his<br>\nhands and feet? Can you trace his agony as it carves lines upon<br>\nhis brow and all down his emaciated frame? No you cannot see<br>\nthe griefs of his soul. No spirit can behold them. They were too<br>\nterrible for you to know them. It seemed as though all hell were<br>\nemptied into the bosom of the Son of God, and as though all the<br>\nmiseries of all the ages were made to meet upon him.<br>\n<br>\nNow why is all this but that he gave himself for us till his head<br>\nhung down in death, and his arms, in chill, cold death, hung<br>\ndown by his side, and they buried the lifeless Victor in the tomb.<strong><br>\nHE GAVE HIMSELF FOR US!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A meaningless gospel, a\nmeaningless god, and a meaningless saviour!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Don Fortner)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;You shall call His\nname&nbsp;<em>Jesus<\/em>, for&nbsp;<em>He will save His people&nbsp;<\/em>from their\nsins!&#8221; Matthew 1:21<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The angel&#8217;s message to Joseph\nwas a message of grace, redemption, and salvation to sinners. By God&#8217;s command,\nHe was named, &#8220;JESUS,&#8221;&nbsp;<em>Saviour<\/em>, because He was sent by\nGod to save His people from their sins. What He is called, that He&nbsp;<em>is<\/em>&nbsp;\u2014\nJesus, our Saviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord Jesus came into the\nworld to save &#8220;His people&#8221; from their sins. Those He came to save\nwere His people&nbsp;<em>before&nbsp;<\/em>He came to save them, His by eternal\nelection. There are some people in this world, an elect multitude, chosen in\nHim before the world began, who are peculiarly and distinctively&nbsp;<em>His\npeople<\/em>, the objects of His everlasting love, chosen in Him unto salvation\n(Ephesians 1:2-6; 2 Thessalonians 2:13).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord Jesus Christ is&nbsp;<strong>an\nalmighty, effectual Saviour!<\/strong>&nbsp;He saves His people from . . .<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp; the&nbsp;<em>penalty&nbsp;<\/em>of their sins \u2014 by His blood\natonement,<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp; the&nbsp;<em>dominion&nbsp;<\/em>of their sins \u2014 by His regenerating\nSpirit,<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp; the&nbsp;<em>being&nbsp;<\/em>of their sins \u2014 when He takes them out\nof this world,<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp; all the&nbsp;<em>evil consequences&nbsp;<\/em>of their sins \u2014 in\nresurrection glory!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Universal love, universal\ngrace, and universal redemption \u2014 is meaningless love, meaningless grace, and\nmeaningless redemption. To preach such, is to preach&nbsp;<strong>a meaningless\ngospel, a meaningless god, and a meaningless savior!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;You shall call His\nname&nbsp;<em>Jesus<\/em>, for&nbsp;<em>He will save His people<\/em>&nbsp;from their\nsins!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>At all times, and under all\ncircumstances!<\/strong><br>\n<br>\n(&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gracegems.org\/30\/every_day.htm\">Every Day!<\/a>&#8221; Author unknown, 1872)<br>\n<br>\n&#8220;Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain\nmercy, and find grace to help in time of need.&#8221; Hebrews 4:16<br>\n<br>\nWe might have been summoned to appear before the throne of<em>&nbsp;Divine\nJustice<\/em>-and then every mouth would be stopped, and all would stand guilty\nbefore God.<br>\n<br>\nBut behold! We are invited to come to the throne of grace! And for what\npurpose? That we might obtain mercy, that we might receive a free\npardon-complete forgiveness of all our sins! And not only this, but that we\nmight &#8220;find grace to help in time of need.&#8221;<br>\n<br>\nThe throne of grace is never vacant. The gracious King ever sits there in all\nHis power and in all His willingness, to bless His redeemed people.<br>\n<br>\nThe throne of grace is always accessible. Not once a year merely, nor once a\nweek, nor once a day, may we approach it-but&nbsp;<strong>at all times, and under\nall circumstances<\/strong>.<br>\n<br>\nOh, what a privilege, my soul, is this! To be permitted, nay, invited and\nwelcomed-to come to the throne of grace whenever you are in want, and for\nwhatever you need!
