C. Philpot, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gracegems.org\/Philpot\/valley_of_achor.htm\">The Valley of Achor<\/a>&#8221;\n1861)<br>\n<br>\n&#8220;Them that perish because they received not&nbsp;<strong>the love of<br>\n&nbsp;the truth<\/strong>, that they might be saved.&#8221; 2 Thess. 2:10<br>\n<br>\nThere is a receiving of &#8216;the truth&#8217;, and a receiving of<br>\n&#8216;the&nbsp;<strong>love&nbsp;<\/strong>of the truth&#8217;. These two things widely differ.<br>\n<br>\nTo receive the truth will not necessarily save; for many<br>\nwho receive the truth, never receive &#8216;the&nbsp;<strong>love&nbsp;<\/strong>of the truth&#8217;.<br>\n<br>\nProfessors by thousands receive the truth into their<br>\njudgment, and adopt the plan of salvation as their creed;<br>\nbut are neither saved nor sanctified thereby. But to receive<br>\n&#8216;the&nbsp;<strong>love&nbsp;<\/strong>of the truth&#8217; by Jesus being made sweet and<br>\nprecious to the soul, is to receive salvation itself.<br>\n<br>\n<br>\n&#8220;Unto you therefore which believe He is precious.&#8221; 1 Peter 2:7<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Call Him LORD<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I notice that few preachers and\nwriters use the expression \u201cOUR LORD JESUS\u201d or \u201cTHE LORD JESUS\u201d. It is \u201cJesus\nsaid this\u201d and \u201cJesus did that\u201d or \u201cJesus died and rose again\u201d. Brethren, HE IS\nTHE LORD \u2013 HE IS THE LIVING GOD!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We need to acknowledge His deity,\nHis dominion, and His divine anointing! He is \u201cGod over all, blessed forever\u201d\nand we can never praise Him too much, speak too reverently of Him, or give Him\na high title which He does not deserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may feel that I am straining\nat a gnat but I sincerely do not think so. As for this preacher and this\ncongregation, He is our LORD JESUS CHRIST and I shall continue to discourage\nany over-familiarity or lack of reverence for His person and work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYe call me LORD and ye say well,\nfor so I am.\u201d And I urge all who use His glorious name, even in conversation,\nto use it most reverently and with full honours!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Henry Mahan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OUR LORD CAME ON PURPOSE<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Lord came on purpose to save\na particular people and He accomplished what He came to do!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are one of those\nparticular people and if He accomplished for you, then He will notify you of it\nthrough the preaching of His word. In His notification, He will convince you of\nthe fact that you are a sinner, the worst sinner you have ever known! That is\nthe very reason why He had to die! It was to save you from your sins, His death\nwas God the Father free to you. And in His free gift you are completely\nredeemed! It was all appointed by the Father and obtained by the Son. No one looked at His outward appearance and thought He was different\nfrom any other mortal man. On the Mount of Transfiguration, the veil of our\nLord\u2019s humanity was taken away so that the disciples had to hide their faces\nfrom the radiance of His glory. The Lord told Moses, no man can see my face and\nlive. For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face. He<br>\nis well aware of the shallowness of his attainments<br>\nin the divine life, as well as of the ignorance and the<br>\nblindness that are in him. He cannot perceive the path<br>\nof life. He sees and feels so powerfully the workings<br>\nof sin and corruption, that he often staggers, and is<br>\nperplexed in his mind.<br>\n<br>\nAnd therefore, labouring under the feeling of . . .<br>\n&nbsp; his own shortcomings for the&nbsp;<strong>past<\/strong>,<br>\n&nbsp; his helplessness for the&nbsp;<strong>present<\/strong>,<br>\n&nbsp; and his ignorance for the&nbsp;<strong>future<\/strong>,<br>\nhe wants to go forward wholly and solely<br>\nin the strength of the Lord, to be . . .<br>\n&nbsp; led,<br>\n&nbsp; guided,<br>\n&nbsp; directed,<br>\n&nbsp; kept,<br>\nnot by&nbsp;<strong>his own<\/strong>&nbsp;wisdom and power\u2014but by<br>\nthe supernatural entrance of light and truth<br>\ninto his soul.<br>\n<br>\nWhen thus harassed and perplexed, he will at times<br>\nand seasons, as his heart is made soft, cry out with<br>\nfervency and importunity, as a beggar that will not<br>\ntake a denial, &#8220;O send forth Your light and Your truth,<br>\nlet them guide me!&#8221; As though he would say, &#8220;<strong>Lord,<br>\nI feel my own utter helplessness!<\/strong>&nbsp;I know I must go<br>\nastray, if You do not condescend to guide me. I have<br>\nbeen betrayed a thousand times when I have trusted<br>\n<strong>my own heart<\/strong>. I have been entangled in my&nbsp;<strong>base<br>\nlusts<\/strong>. I have been puffed up by&nbsp;<strong>presumption<\/strong>. I have<br>\nbeen carried away by&nbsp;<strong>hypocrisy&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>pride<\/strong>. I have\nbeen<br>\ndrawn aside into the&nbsp;<strong>world<\/strong>. I have never taken a single<br>\nstep aright when left to myself. And therefore feeling<br>\nhow unable I am to guide myself a single step of the<br>\nway, I come unto You, and ask You to send forth Your<br>\nlight and Your truth, that they may guide me, for&nbsp;<strong>I<br>\nam utterly unable to lead myself<\/strong>.&#8221;<br>\n<br>\nThe child of God\u2014feeling his own ignorance, darkness,<br>\nblindness, and sinfulness\u2014causes him to moan, and<br>\nsigh, and cry unto God\u2014that he might be . . .<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>led&nbsp;<\/strong>every step,<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>kept&nbsp;<\/strong>every moment,<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>guided&nbsp;<\/strong>every inch.<br>\n<br>\n&#8220;O send out Thy light and Thy truth,<br>\n&nbsp;let them lead me.&#8221; Psalm 43:3<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Man hates the gospel\nwith all his heart!<\/strong><em><br>\nSpurgeon, &#8220;Fire: the Want of the Times&#8221; #854<br>\n<\/em><br>\nBrethren, there is nothing in the<br>\ngospel, apart from the Spirit of God,<br>\nwhich can save a man, for<strong>&nbsp;man<br>\nhates the gospel with all his heart!<\/strong><br>\n<br>\nThough the reasonableness of the gospel<br>\nof Jesus ought to make the belief of it<br>\nuniversal, yet its plain dealing with human<br>\nsin excites deadly antagonism. Therefore,<br>\nthe gospel itself would make no progress<br>\nwere it not for the divine power.<br>\n<br>\nThere is an invisible arm which pushes forward<br>\nthe conquests of the truth. To deny that he is God is to<br>\nmock him, blaspheme him, and attempt to deny him his glory.<br>\n<br>\nTo deny that Christ is God, sovereign upon his throne is to<br>\ndeny hope to needy sinners who look to him alone for grace,<br>\nsalvation, and eternal life (John 17:2; Rom. 14:9).<br>\n<br>\nNone but an absolute sovereign Lord can save.<br>\nNone but an absolute sovereign can be trusted implicitly.<br>\nNone but an absolute sovereign will be worshipped.<br>\nJesus Christ, our God and Saviour, rules all things absolutely<br>\n(Ps. 76:10; 115:3; 135:6; Pro.16:1, 33; 21:1).<br>\n<br>\nJesus Christ is&nbsp;<strong>the absolute Monarch of the universe!<\/strong><br>\nOur Saviour is the great King!
