{"id":996,"date":"2011-07-16T08:04:54","date_gmt":"2011-07-16T08:04:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shoalhavengospelchurch.org.au\/?p=996"},"modified":"2011-07-16T08:04:54","modified_gmt":"2011-07-16T08:04:54","slug":"in-affliction-look-to-jesus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shoalhavengospelchurch.org.au\/?p=996","title":{"rendered":"In affliction look to Jesus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In affliction look to Jesus <\/strong>(<a href=\"http:\/\/gracegems.org\/BOOKS\/Octavius%20Winslow%20books.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Octavius Winslow<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>God\u2019s family is a\u00a0<strong>sorrowing<\/strong> family. \u201cI have chosen you,\u201d He says, \u201cin the furnace of affliction.\u201d The history of the church finds its fittest emblem in the\u00a0<em>burning<\/em>, yet unconsumed\u00a0<em>bush<\/em>, which Moses saw. Man is \u201c<em>born <\/em>to sorrow;\u201d but the believer is \u201c<em>appointed <\/em>thereunto.\u201d<br \/>\nIf he is a \u201cchosen vessel\u201d \u2014 it is in the \u201cfurnace of affliction.\u201d<br \/>\nIf he is an adopted child of God \u2014 \u201cchastening\u201d is the mark.<br \/>\nIf he is journeying to the heavenly kingdom \u2014 his path lies through \u201cmuch tribulation.\u201d<br \/>\nBut if his sufferings abound, much more so do His consolations. To be comforted by God, may well reconcile us to any sorrow with which it may please our heavenly Father to visit us with.<\/p>\n<p>In each season of affliction, to whom can we more appropriately look \u2014 than to Jesus? He was preeminently the\u00a0<em>man of sorrows<\/em> \u2014 and acquainted with grief.<\/p>\n<p>If you would tell your\u00a0<em>grief<\/em> to one who knew grief as none ever knew it;<br \/>\nif you would\u00a0<em>weep <\/em>upon the bosom of one who wept as none ever wept;<br \/>\nif you would disclose your\u00a0<em>sorrow <\/em>to one who sorrowed as none ever sorrowed;<br \/>\nif you would bare your\u00a0<em>wound <\/em>to one who was wounded as none ever was wounded<br \/>\n\u2014 then, in your affliction, turn from all creature sympathy and succor, and look to Jesus! You could not take . . .<br \/>\nyour\u00a0<strong>trial<\/strong>,\u00a0 your\u00a0<strong>affliction<\/strong>,\u00a0 \u00a0 and your\u00a0<strong>sorrow <\/strong>. . .<br \/>\nto a kinder nature, to a tenderer bosom, to a deeper love, to a more powerful arm, to a more sympathizing friend!<br \/>\nGo and breathe your sorrows into His heart \u2014 and He will comfort you!<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Blessed sorrow<\/strong> if, in the time of your bereavement, your grief, and your solitude \u2014 you are led to Jesus, making Him your Savior, your Friend, your Counselor and your Shield.\u00a0<strong><br \/>\nBlessed loss<\/strong>, if it is compensated by a knowledge of God, if you find in Him a Father now, to whom you will transfer your ardent affections, upon whom you will repose your bleeding heart, and in whom you will trust.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In affliction look to Jesus (Octavius Winslow) God\u2019s family is a\u00a0sorrowing family. \u201cI have chosen you,\u201d He says, \u201cin the furnace of affliction.\u201d The history of the church finds its fittest emblem in the\u00a0burning, yet unconsumed\u00a0bush, which Moses saw.
